@FarTooHorny really not a fan. I'd rather it just say "lolicon" instead.

@beardalaxy Interesting, I've never thought about using lolicon or shotacon like that before. Clever workaround that's not as harsh/crass as the p word

@FarTooHorny i mean, that's what they say in anime isn't it? "senpai is a gross lolicon!" etc. i know that in-universe they could be interchangeable sometimes, but it really just rubs me the wrong way when i'm engaging with a fictional medium and i get slapped across the face with "you're such a pedo!" i don't like that line getting crossed. if i see artists doing that kind of thing frequently i'll unfollow/mute them.

@beardalaxy Ah I've never really seen it done in anime, I don't watch too many where that would happen in.Do you think you'd have the same reaction to something like "Oh you like little girls, huh?" or is that also a bit too on the nose?

@FarTooHorny nah that's fine for me. The word 'pedo" is just really loaded, and I guess that's why some people like seeing it since it is more taboo. I think it kind of conflates loli with pedophilia and that's not something I can really get behind.

@FarTooHorny there's still some context/nuance to it, but that's my general stance. I wouldn't expect someone writing a novel like Lolita to use "lolicon" as a drop-in replacement, you know what I mean? But if it's a loli drawing and she's like, flashing her panties at a guy calling him a pedo, that rubs me the wrong way and I think it attracts a certain kind of person I don't want anything to do with.Just my personal thoughts. I know a lot of people probably don't care as much. Imo they *should* care because I think it makes the community worse, and starts to shift it away from otaku and weeb shit into actual pedo territory, but I digress.

@subnetter @FarTooHorny yeah that's why I brought up the in-universe thing. It's still kind of like, weeb shit vs being into real girls kind of thing for the actual viewer though imo because of the connotation. At least that's what it feels like to me.

@beardalaxy @FarTooHorny is it really weeb shit though? As a woman, I don't consume most anime because a lot of it, even favorites like Eva, do have fanservice and actively sexualize 14 year olds. Just because it is fictional, doesn't mean that there isn't sexualization of young women and girls in Anime and Japanese society as a whole. You can buy school girls' panties in vending machines, laws against child sexual abuse are questionable in certain regions. This is honestly why I consider it a red flag to be obsessed with anime, and I've encountered way too many perverts obsessed with it. Lolita the novel, was intended to portray the horrors of pedophilia through the perps lens, and then became romanticized in pop culture by weirdos who missed the point like Lana del Rey. Lolicon as a term implies Japanese media containing underage characters for sexual consumption. The fact that this is even a discussion further solidifies that there is cognitive dissonance with taking issue with the p-word being used, while having a preference for the sanitized terminology that casually facilitates sharing fictional media of underage girls.

@subnetter @FarTooHorny yes it's weeb shit, they aren't real little girls and so I would like to stay away from "pedo" being used in loli media because that word means somebody who is attracted to real little girls. It's even worse when it's like, MAP flags and shit.

@beardalaxy @FarTooHorny the fact this is a discussion just shows that loli is a mental loophole for being attracted to young girls, fictional or not. If there's that much overlap and weirdos openly claiming MAP/pedo in your community then it's time to reflect pretty soon, the same arguments are going to be made to justify sex dolls of children, and the same logic will be applied as if the avg normal person can't discern what it is
