       @lizzy And it feels so weird as someone which used to daily drive OpenSolaris/OpenIndiana, the destruction Oracle caused back then is probably by far the biggest reason I care about portability and am against implementation monoculture.(Other reason against monoculture being security/resiliency, different baskets are unlikely to have the same flaws, something I apply for storage as well, never all the same brand)

       @lizzy(or some other kinda bsd, but netbsd seems to have the strongest antislop policy, so it might be that)

       @lizzy @SuperDicq To be fair, a lot of the minimal functionality could just be lifted off Linux (pre-slop) and the BSDs, because a lot of the hardware has fallback modes for BIOS/UEFI interaction among other things.It's all the advanced functionality that would require considerably more work & time.

       @SuperDicq It would probably be argued that's not enough for a modern OS but like... considering Windows is ensloppifying?It might become enough simply by virtue of everything else becoming worse.

       @lizzy I'm gonna be realy honest with you, my patience has run so thin and my mental health is at such a point that if Linux goes full on slop I'm probably just gonna stick to Z80 based shit and unupdated Debian 12 machines and go work in carpentry or something

       @lizzy I'm sorry to tell you, it has already happened. At least since June of last year. That author is a stable release maintainer and already committed patches written by claude months ago.One such example: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=78d979db6cef557c171d6059cbce06c3db89c7ee

       @phnt @lizzy this link made me look at the fucking anime doggirl thing, my day is ruinedon topic: i dont think there's as big of a problem with experienced programmers using llms to assist as there is with inexperienced/impatient programmers doing it.the former have years of experience and while i wouldn't say one can trust them (insofar as one can't trust anybody), they are more likely to be dilligent and not allow actual slop or insecure implementations to go through. the latter is obvious why that's a problem thoughlike, there's always the chance that somebody pulls a bcachefs and goes crazy but the chance was there with or without llms. either their peers will catch on to it, or they won't and it'll be a problem - but not a problem that the presence of an llm is responsible fortl;dr llms are just a tool; people bad; people always bad

       @mirq @lizzy Only if certain browsers had a very nice feature that bypassed Anubis in most config...#ANUBISfuck_this_shit = [        '*://kernel.org/*',        '*://*.kernel.org/*',        '*://codeberg.org/*',        '*://archlinux.org/*',        '*://*.archlinux.org/*',        '*://*.gnome.org/*',        '*://openwrt.org/*',        '*://*.gentoo.org/*',        '*://*.freedesktop.org/*'        '*://rpmfusion.org/*',        '*://*.pussthecat.org/*',        '*://*.debian.org/*',        '*://*.ffmpeg.org/*',        '*://*.fedoraproject.org/*',        '*://*.luanti.org/*',        ]for url in fuck_this_shit:    with config.pattern(url) as p:        p.content.headers.user_agent = "<not telling because someone from gnome will block it.>"

       @phnt @lizzy wait lol this just shoves a specific user agent at anubis? that's all it takes?come to think of it, i remember yall talking aboutn this what feels like months ago. you'd think the totally-good-and-cool-and-useful-anime-girl-that's-everywhere-now-for-some-reason would have patched that by now

       @mirq @phnt @lizzy the default config is defense in depth, it assumes you've already blocked all the user-agents you don't like, but need to filter out everything pretending to be a browser too

       @mirq @lizzy Anubis in the default config checks whether the user agent contains Mozilla/5.0 and if not lets it go through without any checks. That's literally all it takes and it is by design so it doesn't break tools like curl.I've already seen scrapers abusing this.
