I was thinking about the staying power of memes. Harambe got so big initially because, after the initial report, before the video was posted publicly, some race activists on twitter said the cops would've never killed a gorilla to protect a child if he was black (iirc there were similar incidents shortly before that), and the leftists on twitter followed. Later, when other users heard about the story, they saw a bunch of black and rainbow people saying the cops were racist for killing a gorilla, and started mocking BLM rhetoric with their "justice for Harambe". When the meme made it to the normiesphere, boomers, unfamiliar with the context, were so shocked by the sheer absurdity of the statement that they refuse to let go of the meme to this day.
