Final discussions on Chat control 2.0. mandatory id verification is in. This is why Nostr is so powerful.Although not as good as @c998a573 but it has a crucial feature - it's accessible for progressive web apps. One HTML file served and you can use decentralized infrastructure. Because it's very possible that non compliant apps will be kicked out of the stores. And that unfortunately means zero network effect. Alt stores or apks are just not used enough to matter for chat apps.

Platforms are not removing sideloading. In fact they are allowing it more than before. Pwas are not gimped, they can do more and more and Nostr clients as pwas work really well.

In fact they are allowing it more than before. what crack are you smoking?Android is THE biggest platform in the world and is explicitly removing sideloading. Apple will do so the second that they make a deal with EU Microsoft has continued to slide in the direction of only allowing MS approved software to run for decades

They do allow installing apks. They want to do KYC of the authors, but they backed out of this idea somehow too.The real problem is network effect. Most people will just not install an APK

Yes. It solves one extra thing - Fediverse identity is tied to a server. Server can be blocked. On Nostr we have just a keypair and we can relay-hop. There's no domain to cancel or server to turn off, you can just continue. The worst that can happen to you is you need to update your relay list in profile note.

Though I suppose with crypto your identity is stronger and more easily verified -- but this is doable with a single gpg signed message.
