@SuperDicq I mean, it could've been factory reset, right?

@yomiel@new.asbestos.cafe As far as I know it's stored in the firmware and is a very hacky non-trivial thing to do. Factory reset doesn't clear it.

@yomiel@new.asbestos.cafe I mean it could've been used to record video its entire life. That doesn't increase the shutter count.

@SuperDicq I don't think people really tend to take videos with this kind of camera anyway. Especially not nowadays.

@SuperDicq I mean, most people would usually take video with their phone. The majority of people using a dedicated camera like this almost exclusively take photos. This is pure speculation mind you, but I can't remember the last time I saw someone with a DSLR camera outside, nevermind someone recording with one.

@yomiel@new.asbestos.cafe I'm planning to use it mostly for video. I think DSLR cameras take way better videos than phones do.

@SuperDicq I've never seen a phone camera I've liked, but then again I've never used a phone that cost more than £200~ though I'm definitely aware that more expensive and newer phones take much better videos and pictures (Like iPhone's or the Google Pixel)I'm not saying DSLR takes bad videos, I think they generally look pretty good. Mine also records in 1080p, and takes pretty decent video. It's not like a high end camera, but it's more than serviceable for home recordings. But obviously, it's a pretty big inconvenience to lug around if I'm going somewhere outside.

@wafflesies@infosec.exchange Yeah so I got a 50mm lens. It's a great lens and very easy to get good looking DOF pictures with it, it seems. But I did make one mistake with it. It's really low FOV because apparently these Canon cameras have a 1.6 crop factor, which means a 50mm essentially turns into a 80mm! I only learned this today because I don't really know much about cameras yet...So I think I'm also going to need to get a 24mm lens in addition for wide angle.

@wafflesies@infosec.exchange So I think I'm going to get a Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM "Pancake" lens. I think that should work perfectly fine for taking normal looking wide angle video that isn't super zoomed in.

@wafflesies@infosec.exchange Yeah that's good. As I understand it with my particular camera with it's really high crop factor of 1.6x a 24mm lens essentially turns into a 35mm.

@wafflesies@infosec.exchange I got a Canon 60D. Basically the cheapest camera I could find that has MagicLantern support.
