I have a 40TB NAS in cold storage. Should I write all of it to optical media when I do my yearly consistently check?

@benis_redux Schizophrenia. I don't know how much I would trust a hard drive to not corrupt data after years in storage vs an optical disc.

@splitshockvirus burnable discs are susceptible to mold and degradation in general, they're not a silver bullet

@roland @splitshockvirus optical discs are fine in a normal environment, unfortunately he lives in Florida. I'd try putting them in vacuum food containers, or at least in airtight boxes with moisture and oxygen absorbers

@splitshockvirus @roland also I'd be shocked if tape isn't even more sensitive to ambient conditions than optical discs

@rolandDepends purely on how much and how often they're updated. Even bitrot is an entirely solved problem. @benis_redux @splitshockvirus
