@Richard That's an awful fancy machine to not have a PID.. sure is pretty though.. Rocket Apartmento with the badge removed?

@Richard Grok is stumped. I asked it what make and model your machine is. First it said a Bezerra Matrix. I asked it to do better. It said a Rocket Mozzafiatto. Nope. Then is suggested a Lelit Elizabeth.Did I just stumble on an AI analysis benchmark?

@Richard ahhh, lot of the super shiny prosumer stuff tends to blur together, beautiful though.. PID, Proportional–Integral–Derivative controller, just a fancy name for a semi smart fuzzy logic temperature controller.. that is a boiler unit, not a heat exchanger? whatever it is , it's so sexy..

@HonkHonkBoom ohhhh. I have not seen those on non-commercial machines. This has a way that you can adjust the temp, but you have to test it manually. but once you set it, it is rock solid.

@HonkHonkBoom i can totally recommend it if it is within budget, the entire group head is made out of industry standard / compatible parts. almost entirely SS.

@Richard Ohhh, That one gets around a lot of the temp variation of lesser machines by just running a giant boiler with circulation, lol.. neat..

@HonkHonkBoom it was my replacement for the Breville 900XL, which i also loved, but it died after 7 years due to what i consider a design flaw. The superstructure of the 900 was polymer, including the flanges that the portafilter 'bolted' up to. so when i was looking for a replacement i insisted on an all metal group head.

@Richard Yeah, was just reading up on it... 1.6L boiler, that's absurdly large ... not gonna run out of steam anyhow, nice.. PID took my rancilio from consistent, but annoying, temp surfing to bang on every time, doesn't need to get that 30deg drop to trigger a simple on/off for the boiler, it taps it continually and reads the feed back temp to keep it stable..

@HonkHonkBoom I think that this mach _might_ struggle with temp consistency _if_ you were using it to make like 5-6 drinks in a row.But i usually on make 1 or 2. so it has been great.

@Richard No doubt.. I do love rancilio for that, i could beat my way through a wall with it and it likely wouldn't take any disabling damage, rock solid decades proven design on the grouphead... but i still look at the nicer machines with a good bit of longing.. also, i found with the PID, can tune your water temp slightly for different beans, change what aspects get accentuated, that's been fun.. hehehe..

@HonkHonkBoom I've never considered that need, but i always stick to the really dark roasts, so i presumed the optimal temperature would be the same. You are out nerding me, bro! lol

@Richard But mine is kinda ugly, didn't want to damage the housing of the rancilio since it's 30 some years old, so, managed to get the relay and the wiring inside but the actual controller box, and all the wires for the probe and both sides of the relay come out by the water tank and it's looks kind of like a caffeinated IED... Need to get a dual PID to control the pump as well so i can have it do automated timed shots... absolutely not necessary, but, ya know, once ya dig in, it's never enough.

@Richard LOL, of course Quickmill made their own version of the Rancilio Silvia, and upgraded everything, and built the PID right in.. Not as sexy as the super shiny machines... but it's stacked. https://www.chriscoffee.com/products/quick-mill-silvan...

@Richard And, from my point of view, they're also easy to source replacements that don't look out of place. but i love the industrial feel... Kind of always wanted one of the classic big art piece, almost steampunk, machines, yeah, they make a current version, but it starts at $30k, and space for something like that.. already feels alchemical pulling that thick frothy ichor from the beans.. would rather put the wizards hat on the whole affair..

@HonkHonkBoom yeah, i've been to a few coffee shops where they have like a huge machine that is a lot of copper or brass and is the size of a fridge turned sideways.i really like that look. but i don't have the room for it or the $50k+ to spend on it. lol

@dassauerkraut @HonkHonkBoom Presuming the machine lasts at least 8 years, it is actually $1500 for 2,920 cups of coffee.

@dassauerkraut @HonkHonkBoom I was saying, as a minimum.Trust me, my first 3 years of being an espresso drinker i was using an $80 DeLONGHI mach. It was good too.

@dassauerkraut @Richard 2 or 3 a day, and for mine, I rebuilt a neglected classic Italian machine that i got for a very reasonable price and upgraded it with some new tech while keeping all of the naval brass and stainless steel .. And, once you're capable of making really good espresso, it's hard to find an equivalent in a coffee shop... half the baristas these days have never tasted the espesso they brew without it being covered up with milk and sugar..

@dassauerkraut @Richard and yeah, my first few machines were thrift store finds, how i taught myself to work on um to get confident enough to rebuild a good machine.. but .. haven't even gotten into grinders yet, can spend just as much as a machine there easily, lol,

@dassauerkraut @Richard that's the key, an inconsistent grind, and forget about it.. you can have the best machine in the world, and you''ll still get starbucks grade results if your grinder isn't great.. nothing ya can do to fix a bad grind

@HonkHonkBoom @dassauerkraut if you have a $300 budget, spend $200 on the grinder and 100 on the mach.

@HonkHonkBoom @Richard Testing feed samples at work, we used a commercial coffee grinder to grind it down for the scanner. Those blades wore down to nothing after a couple years of use and made life hell for the QA's for about a week. Those machines are consumable.

@Richard @dassauerkraut aye, I ended up with an ascaso imini, it's such a tank, just keeps going and going, unless you try to feed it any less than exactly 120v... then it jams.. got it on a vintage regulator and it's grand..
