While I believe taxes on luxury goods of any amount are reasonable, this is a great example of the bizarre Trump tariffs. My Norwegian friends know, I love #Brunost — my favorite cheese in the world. My colleague @sjn kindly brought me Brunost to #FOSDEM 2025, but I've long since enjoyed it!As a holiday treat, I wanted some Brunost. This tiny 250g cost me US$11!It's delicious, but expensive! My Norwegian friends: I'll glad pay you a 10% premium to bring me Brunost at @fosdem 2026.

@bkuhn Do you have any preferences from Tine's selection of brown cheese https://www.tine.no/produkter/ost/brunost ?@sjn

@aslakrOh, I love the standard G35 for sure, and also really like Geitost as well.I didn't realize there were so many varieties until you showed me that link. Obviously I'm now curious to try them all. When I've visited Norway, typically what I find in the grocery stores is just G35 and Geitost. Do most groceries even have these other ones?Upon reading the descriptions, I guess that I will probably really like Heidal brunost. @sjn

Foiled again by my heavy work schedule. I just saw @sjn at this #FOSDEM Fringe event thing, & he noted that I had failed to properly place my Brown Cheese order with him. My own fault for letting it fall off my @fosdem prep agenda.Any Norwegians who haven't left for FOSDEM yet want to deliver me some Brown Cheese? I'll take as much as you can carry of G35 and Geitost. I'll pay you a 5% markup for your trouble.Cc: @aslakr#FOSDEM2026 #FOSDEM26

Now so many people are offering to bring me Brown Cheese I may get enough for the whole of 2026 to have some every morning.I did bring an extra suitcase just in case this happened. 🤣 Cc: @Liks0m @Foxboron @sjn @fosdem @aslakr #FOSDEM #FOSDEM2026 #FOSDEM26

😍…It is wonderful to be loved by the Norwegian #FOSS community. Last year, @sjn brought me 500g of #Brunost at #FOSDEM. This year, a larger group — incl. @Liks0m & @Foxboron & @aslakr — conspired to bring me 3kg of Brunost & 1kg of Geitost! They now joke (?) that it'll continue to progress: .5kg->2.5kg->12.5kgI keep reminding them I have to prove to USA CBP it's all for personal consumption. I can totally eat 12.5kg in 1 year, but CBP might not believe me!♥️NORGE_FOSS!#FOSDEM26 #FOSDEM2026

I hope this is not a disgusting affront to what Brunost is for, but Norwegian Brown Cheese melted onto a fried egg is beloved, #diabetes friendly breakfast for me.I have enough Brown Cheese from #FOSDEM that I can enjoy this Breakfast for at least six months.Cc: @sjn @Liks0m @Foxboron @aslakr

And, BTW, I checked the USA import rules. There is *no statutory limit* to the amount of hard cheeses that you can import for personal consumption.I mean, if I come back with 30 kg of Brunost (& Gjetost) from @fosdem 2026, I suspect that I'll get interrogated by USA Customs, but it'll be worth the 2 hours of being back-roomed by Trump's goons.I plan to tell them this record from 6 weeks before exists so I can prove my plan is to eat it all myself!

@sjn Sorry for the earlier amounts typo in this post BTW.I do have to plead USAmerican-units-clueless — buying food in imperial units my whole life.I now realize the Brunost I buy for US$11 is actually 125g not 250g. The 250g is USA is even more expensive and not as easily available. So that's why I was thinking what you all brought me was 1kg each because it is 4x the size of what I buy in USA.So, the Brown Cheese you got me has USA street value of US$176. @Liks0m @Foxboron @aslakr
