My 2 sats.. Not a single one… too many electronic systems integrated and they are all designed to “protect the occupant” instead of be robust Better to invest into a late 90s classic that has been lovingly cared for by a single or second owner… knowing you’ll have to invest time and energy to maintain and replace aging parts instead of eating high depreciation cost on the vehicle… or, if you have the coin, grab something that has been restored by someone obsessed with doing things the correct way and is moving to the next project and offering a fair price

In the US Pre-2014 with minimal gulag tech (remote start, satellite, telemetry). On engine, my mechanic swears by 2006 +/- one generation land cruiser engines as being hard af, reaching 400k-500k miles with ease.

You said being made today so new, the japanese are really to only place to look. Mazda suv’s and the perennial Honda, Toyota - everything they make. Avoid 1st year “new generation” vehicles. Takes about that long to work out kinks in parts and production.95-05 is a sweetspot in reliably across the industry, especially if manual transmission.
