@SoNotABrick Given my actual family, I am sooooo not interested in the lost.That said, my father was an orphan, & many years ago, I, personally, did in fact find his long lost family.He was very happy to finally know his roots. However, his family who survived beyond his orphanage, who didn’t look for a small child abandoned by multiple deaths, were unsurprisingly disappointing.My father was a singular being among the abusive many.Not all humans ought make families.

If you had a positive even neutral experience with family I expect that type of storytelling would be enjoyable.Other than my father, who wasn’t around enough to stop the bad, I survived a very abusive “family”. I am sure the show you mentioned is lovely to those who aren’t triggered by abusive family relationships.

@Nonilex I prayed I was adopted, mine was so bad. but for an aunt and uncle I wouldn't have survived my dad being in the Navy. I outlived them and their abuse, I pray your father found some peace in his journey. I enjoy the show because there's no sob stories, just two investigators that are adoptees themselves. lots of legit reasons for adoption, and they handle them well. no shame or blame.

@Nonilex I actually have a friend whose mom surrendered him and his older sister when she was in drug rehab in the late 70ss, thene went back and got the daughter and left the son after like 5 years. how fucked up is that? he's now the proud dad of four, and one of the most involved and loving parents I know. he broke the pattern.

@mastodonmigration I know Joss Whedon turned out to be a royal ass (though for quite a while I worked in the industry, & I can say that 79% of directors — 97% of the male directors — were total sadists) but still, he made some remarkable stuff.One of the things I most like about Firefly was that unless in an atmosphere any space fighting / ship damage / explosions were silent. If you find yourself in the line of fire from a thruster, a rocket exhaust plume, or dare I say it an explosion, you could actually get sound. See this RocketLab 2nd stage ignition sequence video _with sound_ https://www.reddit.com/r/space/s/u32HTQseY8If I recall correctly that was taken with a fairly stock GoPro action camera, which had a microphone.
