A question to those who paint with acrylics. Which brands do you like? I only tried Amsterdam from Talens. I think they colors could be a bit more saturated. But maybe it’s the medium and that’s how it should look like. No experience. #artquestion #traditionalArt #acrylicPaints

Ok, I probably found the answer already. Amsterdam series is a cheap „student class” one and it’s less saturated with pigment. Upgrading to higher class could potentially fix the problem. Am I right? The price difference is quite large...

@deerbard I have primarily used Liquitex Professional Heavy Body acrylics. They're thicker with a very high pigment load. If you like thinner paints, the Soft Body acrylics are really nice. I've recently started using Golden Open acrylics. The consistency is somewhere between those other two but they stay workable much longer vs drying almost instantly. I'm really enjoying the slower drying time to allow for better mixing.

@iangclifton Thanks!I think I’ll first try to jump to the medium price level and try Van Goghs with some basic colors and see how much of a difference it is. I’m not sure how much I’ll use this new for me medium.

@deerbard Yeah, that's fair. It can get pricey! You may also want to consider a limited palette. When I first started, I thought I needed a lot of colors, which also made me avoid professional grade paints, but getting too many colors limited my growth. I focused too much on the "right" color until I started experimenting with limited palettes. The Zorn palette is probably the most known and really helped me, but there are a bunch of options.

@iangclifton Yeah, I know. I prefer basic colors though. That’s how I used watercolors for many years too.

@deerbard That makes sense 🙂 The pigments tend to be the same between watercolor and acrylic, so sticking with colors you're familiar with is a good plan. Best of luck!
