I want to rework this again so it would use different domains for AP urls so I could merge all my (single-user) Pleroma instances into onehttps://git.pleroma.social/pleroma/pleroma/-/merge_requests/3965

I gave up on this idea because some fedi software doesn’t like shared inboxes being on different domain than the actor but the worse thing is lots of fedi backends still don't read /.well-known/host-meta

@mkljczk don't bow to the mastodon monopoly! Do your thing and shame them into fixing their shit. :goose_rage: (I'm being half serious here)

@mkljczk it worked well for Takahe so there must be a way to do it

@liaizon looking at the code, Takahē simply had a separate shared inbox for each domain. I think I have working code for Pleroma based on this approach somewhere

@liaizon I think Takahē's design assumes you have many more users than domains, so having a shared inbox for each domain still makes sense. Not the case for what @mkljczk describes. Then again, unless it's a baffling number of domains, if you have one user per domain I think you could probably get away traffic-wise without shared inboxes.Or you could put all the AP stuff on one domain and assign the accounts different handle domains. Works in most non-Misskey places: https://correct.webfinger-canary.fietkau.software/#implementation-status

@julian @liaizon Funfact is remote split-domain profiles were actually broken on Pleroma 2.7.0 (fixed recently on 2.10.0) and are still broken on Akkoma after a supposed security fix that effectively disabled the feature (but with extra steps) and my partial fix. And whether it actually works depends on how the profile was fetched last time

@mkljczk on wow I wonder if anyone has that set up for a Pleroma instance currently. I think this would be such a quality improvement. Especially for a server thats for a handful of projects that are already set up with their own domains and want to keep them as their identity but wouldn't necessarily want to host a bunch of different servers.

@mkljczk @liaizon Perfect, thanks for the link! I have updated the compatibility table.
