Alright, let's do this! This month with @dosgameclub we're looking at ZZT, the 1991 "game engine" that kicked off Epic MegaGames.I've never played this and wouldn't be too excited for it, were it not for the fact there is a huge, active scene where people make their own games. You can browse what people have made at https://museumofzzt.comWhat I'm starting now with is "TOWN", one of the four games that came with the registered version.

I've wandered around TOWN a bit, but man. This is pretty tough hahaI hoped it would be more chill, more adventure-like, more puzzly. But no, it's mostly arcade action and I'm so bad at this sort of stuff lol

@Tijn@dosgame.club Some ZZT game worlds lean more on the arcade action, others lean more on the puzzle. Town is valuable in part because it gives you a taste of what became multiple key approaches to ZZT game design.

@Tijn@dosgame.club (Also, those first two screenshots use an unusual, for ZZT at least, font - make sure to play with codepage 437)
