Fun fact: Linux Mint xorg sources also doesn't include TearFree patches for the proper built-in Intel video driver (modesetting). If you have tearing on Linux Mint in these conditions (relatively new Intel CPU with build in video) and want to use TearFree option to fix it, you have to patch it yourself to make it work properly. If only it isn't fixed by another package I don't know about.

@GlitchGhost I use Debian13 KDE currently but am also curious if Linux Mint will work for me.Since I'm already used to Debian I am sometimes checking bit by bit how will something work under Mint that I had to deal with already in Debian.I had to deal with tearing, I learned that there's no easy way to fix tearing on Intel CPU video if it isn't fixed by your DE settings. And you need to patch xorg from with commits from upstream and only then apply similar xorg config to one shown in frequently reposted TearFree manuals online. And today I've checked if that code exists in Linux mint xorg sources. It doesn't.P.S. sorry for infodumbing 😭

@GlitchGhost it's pretty possible that tearing won't occur under cinnamon in same conditions that I have with KDE. But I see that my current fix won't work.

Okay, so I'll definitely need to patch xorg on Linux Mint.Because it also has this stupid tearing issue :blobcattableflip:

@GlitchGhost actually I just tried the live USB.The tearing exists and I'll have to fix it if I want to use MintThe example video is here: https://udongein.xyz/notice/B2PNvdE7IjVDAToG8G

@yura Linux mint has been my daily driver for some time now and I have not had any screen tearing issues but that my be since I have an nvidia G sync monitor. Not really sure as I'm not too keen xorg and have not used other distros aside from zorin os which was my first distro when ditching windows and then I moved to mint and I've been happy with it ever since

@yura I think I've only once tried KDE with fedora KDE but it was such a shock and different from mint that I just went back to mint since thats what I know and am happy with

@yura maybe thats how it is on a live USB but maybe that goes away once you've installed and updated mint after installing it but not sure. Again I have a nvidia g sync screen that gets rid of screen tearing

Okay, so I've applied yesterday my favourite patch from official merge and xorg compiled.I had to so some manual fixes to fix compilation errors. Idk how did I do without being a programmer and even using chatGPT. Just by comparing the erroring code in the compilation process and the patched code from the repository (and fixing patch rejects at the beginning of course). Now I have to somehow test this compiled code out of my virtual machine 🫠P.S. I wonder if it's possible for LinuxMint team to add 46th patch to their collection

I tried my cursed test by booting up LiveUSB, installing a patched xorg, writing config with "TearFree" option and restarting lightdm via console. It definitely works fine now :blobcatthinkingeyes:

Hey @linuxmint Is it by any way possible that we can make this merge from 2022 to your xorg sources from the upstream? https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/-/merge_requests/1006I remember that in my case manually patching sources on Debian works pretty well. Bit I'm not a developer and barely understand what does the code to.Also I tested it on LiveUSB and it seems to work but requires some attention because automatic patches doesn't work all the wayIn any case it looks like that this 46th patch for your xorg (I see that you already have 45 patches in sources) may really help a lot of people who are experiencing tearing on their devices (I see people complaining in a discussion also for Mint).P.S. Sorry I don't know proper place to ask for that

@yura@udongein.xyz it's most likely it will get merged in XLibre than in FDO's, since they want to kill X11 at all costs

@notavi10 as I always tell, Wayland is not supported enough by a software that I use daily. It sucks but it is how it is. Wayland is not for me up until I change a job orentioned software implements proper Wayland support.

@yakumo_izuru @yura We already merged the TearFree patches (e.g. https://github.com/X11Libre/xserver/commit/08183c6) and enabled TearFree by default (https://github.com/X11Libre/xserver/commit/0dacee6).
