Observation: the lobbyism against privacy protecting regulations in the EU is part of a bigger plan. Venture Capital is on the move and starting to look more at the EU, moving away from the US. Trumps regime is more and more seen as limiting. Investing in the US is investing in a market that isolates itself. Investing in the EU is a better opportunity, but the regulations are seen as obstacle. But ultimately regulations are more annoyance than real obstacle.

Note that I am NOT saying that attracting VC is a good thing. I personally think that US style startup culture has had its peak and that transplanting it from the US to the EU would be very bad for our people. I'd much prefer a shift towards cooperatives, based on democratic principles that forego the "lonesome hero" myth. That kind of investment would be far more EU style :)

@jwildeboer Do you have an European example that we can take inspiration from?

@luminos There are lots of ICT cooperatives out there where members share their specific knowledge to go out and sell services in a combined form. As I am in Germany, I can share some examples from here: https://www.it-projekt-eg.de where freelancers use a cooperative to offer their services. https://govdigital.de and https://psita.de/psita-eg are cooperatives that offers services for public authorities. https://klinik-it.de for hospitals. And many more.

@luminos And I still want to see a network of cooperatives across Europe where Open Source developers can work together to create better solutions AND earn a living. Such an obvious thing to do, really, and so much more a practical approach than foundations.
