As both these countries are foreign entities, I don't take sides but do, as a former soldier (NBC-NCO) have a realistic respect for the world's largest nuclear superpower.As far as Ukraine goes - its being depopulated and demolished in an unwinnable proxy war that no Western Nation seems interested in ending as long as there's a profit to be made.  This warmongering stance is prevalent in Brussels and Washington, where President Trump, if he truly wanted could have ended this thing "day one."FORWARD:President Putin and the Ukrainian Actor-comedian, Volodymyr Zelensky have reportedly agreed to a short-term energy truce brokered by President Trump amid extreme cold weather in Ukraine.  On January 29, 2026, Trump said that Vladimir Putin agreed to a one-week halt on strikes targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, to protect civilians during a severe cold snap.  However, this energy truce doesn't apply to Ukraine's military infrastructure, logistics or combat elements which are still being hammered.   The next round of U.S.-brokered "peace" talks are expected in Abu Dhabi on Sunday February 1st, but this date and location could change due to US-Iranian tensions.  Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine remains open to de-escalation but only on his terms, and stressed Moscow's territorial demands, specifically for the Donbass remains out-of-the-question.  As Russia is pulverizing Ukraine, Zelensky's positions are delusional and if he doesn't surrender Donbass at the negotiations table, Putin said he will "liberate" it militarily.  As a middle-ground, Team Trump has proposed a "free economic zone" in Donetsk, which Ukraine rejects, insisting on maintaining control over the region.
