@ninafromcanadaeh Idiots wouldn't get independence if the scheme worked. Alberta would be appropriated. It would be a territory until enough MAGAts move there to vote for statehood.

@ninafromcanadaeh Did the Quebecois go to a foreign power that was openly bragging about wanting to occupy Canada?

@ninafromcanadaeh That's not illegal activity then. You can talk about succession; acting on it is a different matter.

@ninafromcanadaeh Not how the law works though. You have to commit an illegal act, not just talk about it.

You can't just ignore the United Nations because you don't like something.."Self-determination—the freedom to choose for oneself—is a key principle of the Charter of the United Nations."

@ninafromcanadaeh Polling for separationism is low in Alberta. Profit from oil sands is high.Quebec ran a referendum. Not a crime. Asking for foreign money to support a coup is.

@ninafromcanadaeh I get that.If it helps: Referenda are not legally binding unless the laws supports it becoming binding. I think about 1/2 of the propositions California passes have become law; others not. The courts tosses quite a few.Think of it as "asking a question". What's done after the question is answered is what matters. If Quebec took up arms, that would not be legal - violation of sovereignty. If the Canadian government had invaded without if they hadn't taken up arms, that would also be illegal (also a violation of sovereignty. but only under international law only only enforceable at times). But then it all depends on who wins.

@ninafromcanadaeh @LostInCalifornia Sort of. Québec Solidaire is incurably woke and no one really pays attention to them. The Parti Québécois is doing well and the leader has promised a referendum in the first mandate which might start after the elections in October. They are very much focused on separation.
