I think 2 years ago when I could not make basic system changes I gave the apple computer I got to my mom.I also was given a work computer that was locked into Windows. I asked my boss to allow me to remove it, with some side comments that the IT department are pretty special ed and in the way. He agreed and let me remove it.

I have friends who've been invested in it for decades, but at no point has it ever been "Well, first you turn it on, then you use it." The routine maintenance is something I no longer have interest in.I hate Apple because I'm from outside of San Francisco, and they're a shit company who lies first, then covers their lies with additional lies. They were way ahead of the game there. Turns out, you really can just tell fucking lies all day and all night, and if they're the 'correct' lies, the 'woke' will support them to their dying breath.Like JB, for example...

Yeah I’m not really a gaming guy, but I have to admit I am intrigued by that device I believe in the long run the Microsoft drive to go away from native Windows programs to everything cloud based will hasten their undoing… If everything is in the cloud and browser based, then why would I even need or want to use any Microsoft product?

Linux Mint has timeshift for backups so you can recover if something goes south. It has an icon in the task bar that shows you when updates are available. Click on the icon when you have time and tell it to install the updates: Done. It'll eventually tell you when a new version is available and walk you through installing it.There's not much not to like save that it uses systemd, and that's true of most distros now.

My brother in law and I high fived, because we pictured a world in which we didn't spend 30 mins - 4 hours every visit parsing vague requests about performance and deleting shit he'd let be auto-installed. It was pretty good for the past 4-5 years because we set up an admin account on his Windows machines which either of us could use to prevent installs, helped a lot, it wasn't so bad, but man, Apple would be wonderfulWithin two months he dropped it, shattering the screen, and can't be bothered to get it fixed.
