I feel like the whole of the Internet is in its death throws. I've been online longer than the WWW. I started out with BBS and Gopher. The heyday was probably in the first decade of the 2000's. We've now entered the boring 20's a period of rapid decline with a daily dose of dross.I don't know what the solution is or even if there is one, but it certainly doesn't lay in the hands of rich tech bros and mega corps.Open source and federated alternative is probably the only way forward.

@mbt3d The solutions: Blogs, Websites, Forums... (actually some Discord servers are pretty nice places to hang out, a bit like the forums of before)

@jan @mbt3d Yeah, I’m more and more drawn to the Fediverse. Other than Mastodon and Pixelfed, I’m a Blender Artists forum frequenter, and I hang out in. A few Discords, like Jan mentioned, but I don’t like the ultra-commercial nature of Discord, and the frequent nagging pop-ups trying to lure you into some kind of subscription. You just know whatever you post, public or private, is abused, for AI training, personal data retrieval, etc.. Then, everything will be sold for billions.

@jan Yea de-centralisation is the key for sure, that federating so as to allow people to find things again. Searching has become a real pain, thanks Google.
