It was deplorable, and I tried to steer her away from it but you know. Wammans. I think she thought there would be some kind of pecuniary gain in it for her. One day the unfaithful boomer, a well-paid lawyer, asked me to coffee after a meeting. I couldn't resist going to hear what self-serving bullshit was going to issue forth from his piehole and he did not disappoint. Without ever acknowledging that he was already cheating on his wife, though he must have known that I knew, he poured forth his tale of marital woe. It boiled down to: his wife was getting old and he was bored. I wondered why on earth he was telling me all of this, since we weren't friends, I was the age of his mistress, and possessed no particular wisdom or gravitas. I asked him as much. He replied, "Don't you think I deserve happiness?" "No," I said. I have no idea what happened to that guy but my cheating wamman acquaintance later married a great guy, bore him children, and blew up her marriage because she thought she deserved more happiness.
