I was thinking about how ineffective my school experience was for actually teaching me things, and how modern schooling in our post-industrial society is just a holding pen for populations the state doesn't have any use for. My real interest is just in what the actual ceiling is for tutoring children, if you wanted to absolutely maximise their abilities at [endeavour] what would that actually look like? Because modern schooling would not be it. But I see that the only people who have done work on this is this half-Jewish Catholic anarchist priest guy.

@augustus there’s two things I sorta believe in that can’t both be true:1. School doesn’t matter that much, if you’re smart you’ll learn yourself 2. Prussian style school as it done all over the world is very bad and a mind killer.Maybe these are just orthogonal systems, school isn’t for learning but for becoming a cog, and learning is altogether unrelated

@lain @augustus >school has marginal benefits in areas largely unrelated to functioning in the real world>school has severe downsides in very important areas of the student's lifei don't see the contradiction.

@augustus That was more "anti" than I remembered. I recall some video or piece of writing which was more enthusiastic about the possibilities of tailored education. The normal school syllabus can be finished quite quickly (or ignored), thus leaving much time for either specialized studies or more practical lessons (many children reach the end of their schooling being unable to perform basic household or work tasks, or lacking basic knowledge in relation to health, investments, etc.).Children will be more likely to learn if they are given a "why", which schools seldom do.there's also this guy's article (also more of an "anti" piece)https://digdeeper.love/articles/school.xhtml#summary
