@sickburnbro The water table issue is far more severe than people are willing to acknowledge. "Out of sight, out of mind", and all. This kind of situation is why there are sometimes some rules that some random person on the ground finds stupid, and it is important that the actual stupid and useless laws get purged, so that we know that all the laws on the books are truly important and worthy of being followed.

@sickburnbro The bees are nuts, but the even crazier part is the water. The almond farmer COOPs spent like $50b back in 2012 to build a pair of 24 foot wide tunnels all the way from the central valley up to the Sacramento River delta to make up for the future loss of the aquifers they're pumping dry. The farmers up north, like the almond farmers, had enough money to hire lawyers to stop this, as the amount of water they would divert would change the ecology of the entire wetland region of the Sacramento River Delta (which is the most conservative part of the state). Big legal struggle is still going on over it. It's very Californian, but interesting to be able to watch it all happen. https://stopthetunnels.org if you want to read more about it, but the amount of money that almonds bring into the state is pretty insane that they could still be pushing this to happen.

Crazy how they wanna grow shit like almonds in a desert then irrigate shit tons of water from surrounding areas. Sort of like how kikes live in deserts and just have resources from afar redirected to their temporary man made oasis. Almonds grow out here just fine with zero need for irrigation yet they're aren't any giant orchards of them.:thunk_activated:

@Verfassungsschmutz @luithe @sickburnbro Rice consuming countries don't really want American rice, land in those states that could grow rice is more economically viable as timber property due to both long term demand and lower operational cost.

@BroDrillard @sickburnbro The short answer is yes and no.The bees story is old news from last year and made pretty big coverage as the losses were massive and a lot of bitching was going on regarding the weakened colonies being returned to where they came (including as far away as Canada). It's only jewish mega-corpo-goncerns that have the 5000+ hives to ship down there and back. I could dig up the videos I was watching last year about it.Good thing is most bees/beekeepers are small ops

@BroDrillard @sickburnbro Here's an example of the jewish media coverage. There was much effort trying to spin the almond pollination genocide into some "the bees are dying" because muh climate type bullshit. Should read greedy jews killed 70% of commercial colonies. They also started "vaccinating" queens which means they want a barren wasteland to happen and I heard a lot of colonies failed that were "jabbed".https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WzHskeGqgM

@sickburnbro I used to feel guilty during bee 🐝 season in the valley. You'd be driving down the highway and blast through a swarm and your windshield gets creamed. Also, Californians aren't super big on building fences which was weird to me. Orchards are free range back roads to cruise at your leisure.

@sickburnbro It really is demoralizing. There's a saying among beekeepers: "There's no money in honey."This is where the money is. Renting out your hives for commercial farmers. And in this country, the vast majority of them go out west for fricken almonds and fake 'milk' they get from it. With the concomitant damage to the bee population. The majority of them never make it back. Even without the grossness of 'almond milk', almonds are really not all that essential to any human's diet. We could live without them. The world certainly doesn't need how much is produced. The bees can be put to much better use and be better taken care of. Fucking vegans. It's also in selling equipment and bees to other beekeepers.I definitely had/have an interest in the honey. But, though I don't fully buy into Erika Thompson's "it's the bees' honey, they earned it" reasoning for not harvesting honey (though she does harvest a small amount for friends and family, not to sell), she does have an attitude I can endorse: "The colony before the honey."

@totalslothdeath I don't mind moving bees to help with pollination, but 2/3 of the entire managed population for almonds is just out of scale. I can get behind moving a colony around maybe an hours drive to help with things. The not harvesting honey for money is silly because just like any domesticated animal, they are cared for because of their usefulness. You should never pull so much honey that they can only eat substitutes.

@sickburnbro Agreed. It's stupid, but one of my favorite older movies is Ulee's Gold (1997). It's not even about beekeeping, per se, but they get nearly everything right about beekeeping and bees. Unlike the cringeworthy The Beekeeper(1). Peter Fonda was trained and actually did some of the beekeeping in the movie. Those who trained him are from L L. Lanier's. (https://www.lltupelohoney.com/) Anyhow, in the movie, Ulee makes some of his income after the Tupelo flow by trucking his bees around (relatively locally) to watermelon and other fields.(1) If you like action, sure, but they get almost everything about bees wrong, and the scammers are White, whereas in real life they are jeets, always. And the FBI agent in charge is an out of shape sheboon who hates Whites with an partner who is incompetent and, of course, White. End movie rant.

@freemayonnaise @BroDrillard @sickburnbro It has irritated me to no end to browser beekeeper sites and see what they offer for queens and see one of the selection criteria as 'vaccinated'. Makes me want to get better at beekeeping and make sure weak colonies get attention earlier enough so that they can raise their own, new queen if needed. It already happened once to one of my colonies. Tremendously satisfying when the bees fix themselves and not have to intervene unless absolutely necessary.

@freemayonnaise @BroDrillard @sickburnbro I only have 2 hives at the moment, but plan on growing my apiary. At the moment, it's a bit overkill for me to intervene and grow queens unless I'm going to sell them. There's a local guy I bought a queen from for $35. He had some life interruptions but will be back to doing that again shortly. So I have at least one local source. I also may try some swarm rescues this year, if I can convince my boss to allow me to step away at a moment's notice (I've already bribed him with 1lb of honey, so, there is that). I also have a swarm trap.

No. Should have used Epipen, but couldn’t find it. Tolerated it until it was gone… 0/10 do not recommend…

@AGARTHA_NOBLE @sickburnbro this is a bit disingenuous, they’d need all the bees in North America to do them simultaneously but they don’t (as the poster mentioned) so it is a captive subset of bees, not literally every bee that they truck in lol

@AGARTHA_NOBLE @sickburnbro tldr the nicinoids are for the typhus and there’d only be that many bees if you counted every almond camp entry as a separate bee

@Verfassungsschmutz @christmasman @sickburnbro Agriculture in Southern California is wild. >Nature: Don't do that here>Humans: But we want to so we're going to play with (sometimes literal) fire by doing the one thing nature here says no to, man I sure do hope our hubris doesn't draw God's wrath

@JedDrudge Did U take the stinger out?I sure am happy that I am not allergic to bee sting.I have gotten a few, my neighbor changed his bees to some African breed, and this is not a joke but those African bees were super aggressive.I could hear it from 60 feet away, like a little angry propeller plane, Brzzzzt until it landed in my hair or on my throat and just stung me.Neighbor changed back to whatever non African bees he used to have.

@sickburnbro I've been telling people about the vegans for over a decade but they don't listenGod gave you hundreds of animals that produce milk, but you had to try to milk an almond.

No, I didn’t see it. You are lucky. I usually have pronounced reactions to stings. I have heard horror stories about Africanized bees though. Clim is too cold for them here… +whew*

@JedDrudge I have always been able to remove the stinger though. I don't know what would have happened otherwise. Probably not allergic reaction but still pretty bad.The stinger is full of poison, removing it is a great relief.
