I recently finished a collection of poems by George Herbert, and just started one by Richard Crashaw. I wouldn’t say they’re my favourites, but they are extremely good.Anyway, here’s a poem(?) I just got subjected to via my more normie social media account. Enjoy.

@benis_redux once in a while some Right-wing publisher will run a poetry contest or something with a few decent entries, but nothing remotely mainstream (even by poetry standards of “mainstream”) is worth reading.Off the top of my head, I think the youngest notable English poet is probably Dylan Thomas (born 1914).

@Cheshire_Ocelot the problem is a lack of proper education in poetry.when I was in school we were taught various elements like caesura, enjambment, and meter (really just iambic pentameter) but when it came to analysis and composition, too much emphasis was placed on instinct.last year I read Fussell's "Poetic Meter and Poetic Form" which shockingly goes so far as to explain what makes a poem good or bad, and why poetic techniques work the way they do.poetry is about impressions at the end of the day, but saying "just use your feelings bro" to someone just beginning to study or write it is unhelpful and misleading.
