       One forgotten fact about the Vietnam War:It was the only war where several B-52s were actually shot down in air-to-air combat.  Most B-52 losses were due to North Vietnamese SAMs, but at least 34 B-52s were shot down by MiG-21 fighters.B-52s and other strategic bombers may seem untouchable in the modern era, but that's only because they're equipped with standoff weapons like cruise missiles that can launched from outside hostile airspace.If B-52s or similar aircraft are ever ambushed, they will go down in flames again like they did over Vietnam.  No weapon system is invincible.
