@blitzed @Electronwarrior These hypersonic missiles are insane. They're impossible to shoot down because they allegedly travel at Mach 25 (19,157 miles per hour and 30,500 kilometers per hour). 😬Edit: Between Mach 5 and Mach 9 is more plausible. Mach 25 is more than likely misinformation.

@Bunsen @blitzed @Electronwarrior I don't wanna be the "akshually" guy but there's been so much misinformation about these "hypersonic" missles. I will try to keep this short.1. The Oreshnik is a fairly conventional ICBM. The missile itself only travels at Mach 5 during flight. The submunitions can reach up to Mach 11 at descent, but they're no different than any other ICBM other than they launch from a higher altitude to gain more speed. Without a nuclear payload they're just like a 200lb TNT bomb. But yes they cannot be stopped. 2. There is apparently the "Zircon" missile that is an actual cruise missile (not an ICBM) that uses a scramjet to reach mach 9 in the atmosphere. There might be tech that can intercept it but apparently they are almost impossible to get a radar lock on. I've only seen one video of what claims to be them flying overhead and it looks like Star Wars.

@Bunsen @blitzed @Electronwarrior Yes, Mach 25 is not a thing yet lol. They've used the Oreshniks without a nuclear payload in Ukraine. You use the sheer velocity of the empty (or solid metal filled) warhead to create the effect of a small TNT bomb. Evidently it's enough to strike critical targets deep in Ukraine without a lot of collateral damage. Analysts speculate however the missile could carry up to 1 megaton of nuclear effect if armed. The only way to stop it is if you would be able to shoot it down at take off inside Russia. Once its up in the atmosphere and it deploys its submunitions, it's a done deal.
