@wanwizard @TimWardCam To be honest I don't think they care about the papers much. ICE throws a fit if you don't have papers to show, but they also will not look at any papers someone might have. We have multiple stories of them ignoring the paperwork when people try to show it to them. We can't rule out the possibility that this is because they simply cannot read.

@wanwizard @TimWardCam I'm not just saying "they can't read" to be mean. (But it is a nice bonus.) Understanding paperwork takes not just literacy but training. I think the "ICE officers" in their home-made Halloween costume uniforms from Temu, probably do not have even the training of police academy recruit shadowing a real officer to learn the beat. They seem to have been told not to even try to read any papers as they have not hired people who can learn those skills.

@futurebird My opinion, is that ICE is at these protests so that Trump feels less incompetent. It is to make Kristi Noem look like less of a plastic surgery disaster joke. It is to make all those loser s who become ICE agents that they really are "alpha males". In sort, this problem is just a matter of people acting out to hide from their insecurities. It's a case of "losers of the world unite!".

@futurebird this is an important distinction because calling them "protests" feeds into the false narrative that they are a separate class of political agitators and ultimately responsible for the conflict. In reality they are just normal people. They are not there to make a statement, they are there to protect their neighbors, which is exactly what Alex Pretti was doing when he was executed.

@futurebird They don't even seem to respond well to people complying.Its stunning but my sense is that they recognize that most "polite" folks won't watch video of their atrocities and so they think they will get away with anything even as it is all filmed because folks will read a headline or listen to a blurb. The stunning part is just the fact that we live in an era with so much actual footage but folks look away the same as they do with homeless folks.

@futurebird Pretti wasn’t murdered at a protest.There were a few private citizens spread around the street filming the activities of ICE.The conflict was precipitated by an officer pushing a woman to the ground, Pretti attempting to help her up but then finding himself pepper sprayed and under a pile-on of 8 officers where he was finally executed by five bullets in the back.No placards. @futurebird It's not that ICE is at protests, it's that observers are at ICE kidnappings/attempts. We aren't exaggerating when we call this an occupation. The kidnap squads are roaming all over the state, and densest in Minneapolis. This particular one was apparently actually Border Patrol, but they're all getting called ICE as shorthand.

@feznander @futurebird Yes. This wasn’t a protest. This was a bunch of people who showed up to be witnesses at an ICE (or CBP) kidnapping attempt. They do it in hopes that their presence will be a deterrent, but if it isn’t, they record what happens so there will be evidence. Sometimes the evidence helps family members know what happened to their loved ones, but in situations like this one, it also counters the lies coming from 47’s regime.

@futurebird It's all very disturbing, that the cards were allowed to be stacked in this direction for so long. We just celebrated MLK Day for crying out loud. Every election matters. A deadbeat Congress is simply a lever for the executive to control, if they refuse to legislate. Previous administrations deported just as many immigrants, but didn't do it in a made for reality TV style. There was finally bipartisan support for an immigration reform bill Biden said he would sign, but we'll never know what that was because Trump told the GOP to squash it so he could cut government services to write ICE a blank check to light the place on fire.
