I really want to like goldbacks, but I can't bring myself to buy them...The manufacturer posts a markup of about twice their spot price in gold...That premium, despite the marketing, seems mostly defended online by israel's greatest ally...the boomerwaffen...they put minority women all over them including jewish women wearing jew stars...rather than a purely gold backed currency it is already only a 50% backed currency...in terms of dollars...maybe it's a better investment than keeping dollars...but hard to justify not just buying gold for hedging or constitutional silver for liquidity...theoretical considerations: since it is meant to be a durable good...eventually the private company minting them will be in competition with already existing supply...and according to the coase conjecture...should drop their prices in profit motive...somehow the boomers took a simple idea and managed to mess it up so badly that they created a preclipped currency...counter-arguments: maybe it actually functions as a black/gray market price discovery and the true price of gold in dollars is double spot...maybe you are paying a premium for access to the elect network of merchants who accept it as currency...i dont find much of this plausible...i doubt most stackers would prefer the goldback to twice the gold content...

@Frondeur Just buy the physical gold.Since you're in Texas, I recommend these guys:https://texmetals.com/I've done business with them for years and they've never lost a shipment and I've never called and got a jeet or sheeboon on the phone. If you buy their branded bullion they buy it back at a markup.

@pepsi_man i have been looking at them...you recommended physical gold to me before...i have been taking advantage of all the new purchaser deals online...and introducing myself to the local (((merchants)))...i need to work out a way to store and insure it though if i end up owning a lot of it...

if i could i would buy the company though...and i would make each goldback retroactively a share by serial number...entitling you to redeem future dividend payouts in gold in a bearer bond like transaction...(is there such a thing as bearer equity???)...eventually i would do a share buyback allowing trade ins of older goldbacks for newer double goldbacks...that would be much closer in value to their mint cost + melt value...

@Frondeur There are convertible bonds, so I don’t see a reason they couldn’t make a convertible bearer bond allowing you to e.g. 1:2 exchange.

@Frondeur Investing for the future is tricky. I always thought that secretly making brass bullet cartridges could be a good way too go. Hardly anyone knows how brass cartridges are made. It is a global/trade secret. Governments don't want their populations knowing how too make properly formed brass. If you can make a reliable cartridge, you would be a special person on your block.image.png

@BowsacNoodle it's irrational but i have a weird read...i bet if they promised it was backed, the boomers would panic and bank run it...but with no promise...the boomers will pay double what it's worth...

@ArmchairEconomist01 @Frondeur I cut a cartridge in half once in high school on my dad’s band saw. I showed it too my dad and was like, how the fuck do they make these?

@Jonny @Frondeur I thought of getting into hobby ammo manufacturing, especially when a local was relating to me on how to make black powder and primers just using local resources; but then something in my brain was like:>You'll blow yourself upAnd I found me agreeing with myself

@EvilSandmich @Frondeur You can find tons of information on reloading on the internet but no info on how they make the actual cartridge itself. If you can do that then you're in business.

@EvilSandmich @Frondeur My dad was a welder/metal fab guy, so I thought it was strange that he didn't know how a cartridge was made.

@Frondeur my take is they are profiting from the existence and issuance of these and that’s pretty much okay with me if it isnt outrageous.

@Frondeur @BowsacNoodle Real money buys you real food if it's available. If I were a homesteader, I'd want too be able too grow all the things that I eat now, money or no money. If you wanted honey year-round, you'd have to grow either clover, alfalfa or both. Bees can live off of either of those crops alone. Cows like alfalfa so that would probably be the ideal crop. A few cows provide the cream for my coffee, so a win/win.I need lemons for my water and vitamin C, so I gotta have a citrus orchard. The bees will like the lemon flowers (win/win). I need a stock pond for some largemouth bass. The chickens will like the fish heads (win/win). I have too grow Timothy hay for the rabbits and the rabbit poop will fertilize all the other crops (win/win). The chickens will be the hardest too feed. They'll need sunflowers, corn, wheat, oats, barley millet and some kind of calcium source. How the heck you get calcium on a home stead I have now idea, maybe clams in the stock tank. How the heck I'm gonna get my coffee, though? Green house? You people think I'm crazy for wanting a harem. I aint gonna do all this shit by myself.
