Bitlocker is a Microsoft product that encrypts your laptop hard drive etc. Apparently, Microsoft exfiltrates a recovery key for your Bitlocker encryption and stores it in their cloud, they give it out to law enforcement at request. And of course, they give it out to whoever compromises their system and steals that info. Bitlocker is completely worthless trash. Do not rely on it for information security.https://www.forbes.com/sites/thomasbrewster/2026/01/22/microsoft-gave-fbi-keys-to-unlock-bitlocker-encrypted-data/

@dlakelan @Linkshaender They don’t exfiltrate. Users accept the default, which means to upload the keys. You can say no to that.

sure, when you say no, they laugh at you, but they still have access to your keys just the same. even if they never choose to upload them.CC: @dlakelan@mastodon.sdf.org @Linkshaender@bildung.social

@jwildeboer @dlakelan @Linkshaender As far as I am aware, you cannot even try to say no for the windows "Home" version.
