The Eastern FrontCh.2Good evening, Mr. @Flak88 As I mentioned I had made my way to page 52 of chapter two, marking my page at the sub-chapter, Days Of Hell. As these chapters are so very long by comparison to our previous readings of fiction, I may not review an entire chapter each day. I was so glad to see you quote the Italians, even in the midst of the greatest suffering they sought those things which made life worth living. And of course, you quote my favorite part of the chapter so far, when Leon takes a moment to appreciate and remember the unconquerable value of Beauty.I find myself again and again, struck by the horror of the circumstances these brave men faced every day. The elements, the mud, the temperatures, the lack of supplies, the inability to lay flat for a rest, the hunger, and sleep deprivation. Few alive, in our time, can begin to fathom the physical pain. My admiration for Leon only grows as he describes the freeze and the thaw and the freeze. Trudging forward, with no heat, no warmth, no relief from the elements. Bodies floating through the waters that covered the land, being refrozen of the roads, with faces and limbs protruding from the ice, only to be ground down as sawdust by the march forward toward the next wave of unknown terrors.

Good afternoon, Mr. @Flak88 I apologize for the delay, I had a dinner party on Thursday and a long overdue girls day yesterday. I've finally finished chapter 2. THE FLEAS 😫 (shivers in horror) Only two weeks to heal his broken foot must have felt like an eternity. I couldnt help but laugh at the cartoonish image of the old soldier, Steenbruggen "Goodbye comrades, Rex will win!" (fifteen minutes later) "But, in the name of God, I am not dead!"How awful when the panic-stricken young soldier fell and turned to see the blank, blue eyes of his brave father.Mongols, as ugly as monkeys. ONLY NATIONAL PRIDE had enabled the miracle of three counter-attacks and the reconnect.Eleven thousand wounded and taken to the field hospital in five weeks.Again, I say, the suffering and bravely are beyond comprehension.
