Obtaining a permit in this state is hit & miss depending on county.We're fortunate enough to have a sheriff that wants citizens to be armed so the process is much easier.Still, a 16 hour course is required for the first time applicant, two year license. When TX started is CHL back in 95 or so. It was 24 hour classroom which was typically done on a weekend so 12 hours each day. Then range 8 hours for a 4 year at a cost of 140 dollars. Since then we went to open carry which not to many use now we are at Constitutional carry. Some will get a CHL as well by choice but its not needed anymore.

One of the times Ive seen someone open carry was about a year ago at a cell phone store. The dude had the body type of Farva from Super Troopers.
