       Hello new followers, I hope you're not too disappointed if you came here for the feminist analysis and mostly get boosts and bad jokes instead. I realised it's about time I did a new introduction post so hi, I'm Jules, I live in Devon with my wife, 5 cats and 3 giant African land snails and grow plants for science for a living. I'm doing my best to make the world a better place, mostly by composting, cycle campaigning and trying to live as sustainably as possible and practical.

       I teach heritage crafts like basketry and net making and sometime make a desultory attempt to promote my courses on here, but honestly am not very good at that bit.

       I studied insect chemical ecology for a while, then dropped out of a PhD after something happened that gave me PTSD and a breakdown, then worked as a junior database admin for a bit and trained as a bushcraft instructor before going back into science. This is a pretty odd career path in the wider world, but probably not so much for Mastodon.

       Anyway I can't really say I have 5 cats without introducing them, so to avoid allegations of favouritism I shall do so in decreasing order of shoutiness.Cleo. Tiny goblin princess. Spends most of her time curled up in a tiny ball of cuteness to lull us into a false sense of security then does things like disappearing into the fabric of the house through a hole behind the washing machine we didn't even know existed. 5/5 for shouting, a cat of strong opinions.

       Maxi. Distinguished elderly gentleman, likes to supervise to ensure all household tasks are done to a suitable standard. Pedigree Turkish Van, was a stud cat but was put up for adoption "because he wasn't very good at it". 4/5, enjoys singing the song of his people.

       Bella. Machiavellian genius. If she devoted her considerable intelligence toanything other than stealing food she would have taken over the world by now. Briefly nicknamed Little Miss Piss after peeing in a bag of apples left on the kitchen floor until we realised that sounded like a pornstar name. 3/5 for shoutiness, has a meow that sounds like she smokes three packets of fags a day.

       The boys, Salem (AKA Black pudding) and Ciel (AKA The Tuxedo Torpedo). Brothers who share custody of a single braincell. Found in a wrecked car in a scrapyard as feral kittens, currently the least feral cats you will ever meet. Hobbies include being on top of humans and trying to be on top of humans when said humans should have left for work 5 minutes ago. 1/5 look like they should be loud but actually peep instead of meowing.
