Microsoft really had no choice. They had the keys. This is different than asking them to help crack the keys or turning over their ip etc. It's really no different than subpoening emails given the nature of the thing sought and the manner in which it was stored. Simply put, don't upload your keys.

> don't upload your keysSo they like emailed their private keys to Microsoft? Or Bitlocker has a backdoor that does this automatically? If Bitlocker is backdoored, that's the story...

@cjd @Humpleupagus @Dan_Ramos @RichardJohnson @hfaust No it's set to upload them to the cloud by default on W11. You have to turn it off

@cjd @Humpleupagus @Dan_Ramos @RichardJohnson @hfaust Mostly likely a "backdoor" cipher key is added on the fly to any encrypted data.

@cjdIt's not a backdoor if it's by design. I'm sure their excuse is so they can provide support to customers that forget their password. But honestly, who the fuck uses bitlocker anyway.@Humpleupagus @Dan_Ramos @RichardJohnson @hfaust

So it's one of those grey area "Unless you uncheck this box, we have a backdoor into your computer", so when someone gets pwnd, they can say "oh, looks like you didn't check the box, we didn't intentionally undermine you 🤞"...Anyway, looks like "Hello I'm Calling From Microsoft" won't need you to install teamviewer anymore.

Not a grey area with W11. The Microsoft install media demands that you set up a Microsoft account, and all your files are stored on the Microsoft cloud. They don't give you a box to uncheck. You can encrypt them with bitlocker but it's silly because the keys are also on the cloud. It only keeps YOU from reading your files if you lose track of the key...

Best way to not give Microsoft your data is to install Linux. Microsoft needs to be burned to the ground, the ashes scattered, and all the employees prosecuted under RICO for their organized crime.
