i think it's possible that the idea of the prehistoric world as an entirely violent hellscape may not be correct at all. how much harder must it have been to make the choice to kill someone when you have to physically strangle or bludgeon them to death with your own two hands? how much easier does it become to end another person's life when they may die quickly by means of a bladed weapon, or be knocked unconscious with a blunt one? or, pushing the act of killing and the consequences of death even further, how much easier is it to kill when one is looking through a rifle scope at the person they're targeting, or piloting an FPV drone to blow them up? the hands of today's mass murderers are ivory white, while the hands of the most oppressed remain slick with blood at all hours of the day. how disordered and absurd this world is

@cyb3rm0shp1t A world where specific death just as easily results from the endorsement of passive inaction in context as a consumer or beneficiary or just pure fucking automation sure makes killing more common. Civilization, colonization, and the march of progress from the perspective of those whose ground up bones and souls are the substance of the body of leviathan certainly do not act as escapes from that mythical suggestion of a primordial brutality which props it all up to begin with.

@cyb3rm0shp1t I'm agreeing with the main point. I'm going a little deeper and saying that any assumption that the "uncivilized world" is more violent is one of the main arguments for colonization and industrialization and all that and it's to begin with fully bonkers and ignorant.
