       Precedents suggest that annexation regionsneed to BEG for it.California submitted its request for statehood with a big chunk of gold to make the point that we have resources!  Kinda smoothed things over but a lot of conessions had to be made by the north re: slavery before California could be annexed.Anyway I think the first application for statehood failed.The P.I. never even had a chance... they didn't beg.

       @nom Yep. How long has Puerto Rico wanted statehood? But they aren't culturally assimilate-able. They should go beg Mexico. They're basically Mexicans on an island. And take the US inspired star and stripes off their dang flag. Get a baby Mexico eagle or something.
