Any industry is prone to such a thing, but it's lethal to an industry based completely around creativity.

@EscapeVelo I had to look. I remember them being very hokey with "the chair". Like someone would be given command other than Picard, and they would make a huge deal out of it. At the same time, I get it, it was supposed to show reverence for the responsibility that comes with authority.I remembered there being an episode where Picard's "girlfriend" (her name is vaush, lol) sits in his chair exactly like that, and he freaks out because it was disrespectful. That's what I find silly about this, is that you have people who are mocking authority symbols with their own authority figures, and they are doing it to mock the series itself. Then you'll get people who will crawl out of who knows where to say things like "erm well the importance they place on a chair was kinda silly actually". It's like they openly admitting that they are not actually fans of the series.

@Squadalah_Man @EscapeVelo This confuses me.I feel like what they want to do is bring in a larger audience. They don't want trekies who nitpick everything they do, they want less critical fans, but they also want new demographics (especially women). Maybe it's because they hate men and don't want them to have their own cultural spaces, or maybe it's because women are a large untapped market for things like Star Trek and Star Wars.But it doesn't work. Star Trek, Star Wars... a bunch of others that are not coming to mind at the moment... all of their attempts at this have failed, yet they keep going. I want to know when they will run out of money, lol.
