@SaltWraith @SuperSnekFriend @Curvin As Poast's resident nigger music expert, the SoundCloud Rap (and Emo Rap, which often overlapped with SoundCloud Rap) subgenre was basically to Negro music what Grunge was for White music (sad mopey music made by people on downers who die young). SoundCloud Rap (or "Mumble Rap" as it was often known pejoratively) is a dead genre though, ending around the time popular rapper Juice WRLD died in later 2019.

In other words, it's "I'M A LYRICAL SPIRITUAL MIRACLE METAPHYSICAL INDIVIDUAL" rap that people think is pretentious (because it is) and mumble rap that people think is lazy (because it is)

Trap is characterized by most notably it's use of Hi-Hats in it's instrumentals and a somewhat minimalistic production. Lil Wayne began his career making Gangsta Rap (which was the primary subgenre in the 90s), his debut album's cover even used that gawdy Pen and Pixel style. He evolved into his current style in the 2000s and early 2010s. SoundCloud Rap is heavily infulenced by Trap music though, but a good rule is that SoundCloud Rap is often less normie friendly that whatever Lil Wayne and Drake are doing.
