So apparently Timeshift doesn't work for Debian with btrfs because Debian uses @rootfs subvolume for / while timeshift has hardcoded @ instead :neocat_woozy:

Yay, timeshift works. Now I can finally break my system.(I should still set up backups for a boot partition but it's a task for later)

@yura oh no, that will end badly...Timeshift saves you until you accidentally do something with grub/boot (update for example) and then everything breaks

@meowmashine yeah it's only a part of my plans. But it has to be finished one bit at a time.Maybe, when I do it all, I'll try to make a video about desktop Linux backups. Idk how will it end up

@CatboyCody yeah I know, hardware may fail, home may burn down from the drones, power spikes and so on 🫠But I need to somehow obtain extra HDD(s) for yhat. And probably some remote storage :neocat_shocked:

Looks like I found my ultimate and simple user data backup application for Linux.Deja DUP. https://apps.gnome.org/en-GB/DejaDup/You just add your home folder, exclude what do you want (i.e. all 3 TB of legally obtained Linux ISOs), select the backup location, password and boom - wait until everything is done.Want to save your backup to a Google drive - easy. Want to save to some weird unusual remote storage - you probably can because it supports rclone with a huge list of remotes. You'll just need a bit more configuration.Want to open your backups somewhere else than your Linux machine - you can because it uses restic under the hood. Just use restic-browser to view all your backups. Available also on Windows (or restic CLI if you want). Or just browse them in your file explorer. The only important point is - You need the latest releases - 49.0 released 4 month ago because previously it used another backend by default.P.S. Hi Debian, Fuck you! ❤️ (if you use Debian or another distros with older packages, just install Deja Dup from a faltpak).

@yura@udongein.xyz LuckyBackup perhaps? It doesn't come with four metric tonnes of GNOME garbage.

Not I need to find some remote place to store my backups 🫠(And I wish Deja Dup had an option to add a second backup plan just like the first one - for different frequency and different remote, but it's also fine as it is)

@HurricaneWeasel iny case, saving backups on a home NAS is not a wise decision. But I may probably do that anyway. Maybe. 🫠At least I should check what can I remove from backups because right now it takes almost 100GB (and maybe also add something back?)For now my data backup will be made to periodically connected external HDD and manual runs. At least this way it will survive power surges (just let's not look at the bad blocks, they aren't real, they aren't even partitioned, okay?).Idk if I'll also try backing up the root partition to an external storage.

@yura@udongein.xyz hard doubt you'd need a GUI for that
