       The Way of the Wasted Warmth.Made visible by a bit of snow.After light snowfall, the snow on the ground melts fully, or nearly so, right above the route of hot water pipes.This is in Sofia, Bulgaria (population quite a little over a million), where socialist centralization in the past built just a couple of heat plants for the whole city, and connected them with long underground hot water pipelines to consumers.So, we have been paying for heating the environment ever since.
