Maybe in a world where everybody was creating cool stuff, i could go hard, make something awesome, and make my peers proud without standing out from the crowd so much that I have clout issues or it goes to my head.No different than PlayCrafter, really.Maybe that's what the future will be like, after everyone gets really fucking good creative tools from BCIs and AIs.

I've always felt that if the world was really small -- if there was like only a single community of 50 or so people in the world, then everyone could do their own part and actually have it feel purposeful regardless of what they do so long as they're doing something good. In this world, there are plenty of things still not created, plenty of things worth our time.Is this possible on Earth, with 8,000,000,000+ people? I guess you can still create things for your friends that society cannot provide. Art, stories, games, and other entertainment based around the particular mixture of things they like, inside jokes, their problems, and maybe other things.

But is that really enough? That's not giving back to society, that's just giving to your friends. Maybe you're a bonus to your friends, but you're not really essential to anyone....I remember having a conversation with Gemini about the purpose of individuality, how people living unique lives would be good data for the collective -- There's no valuable data in a life someone else has already lived. So maybe you're doing the best for the world just by living your unique life and being the go-to expert on what it contains.

@originalboy2 Yeah. But personally I don't like the idea of doing something "just for the sake of it" because that could include anything. I still want to be useful, so I'll at least do things which my friends would find cool first, over things which are completely futile.

@originalboy2 I want everything. And to truly have everything you have to reach beyond logic, into the impossible that our ultimate agnosticism about everything allows to still be potentially possible. But I also want the world to prosper in the objective sense, so I work towards that, too.
