@FeartnTired Thanks, we’re expecting schools to be closed Friday tbh. So we’ll probably have a nice family day.

@FeartnTired Oh definitely. Well probably let the kids freeze a banana and smash it with a hammer again too.

@HebrideanHecate I’m just glad I don’t live in Minnesota right now, it’s supposed to be 20-30 degrees colder and there are warnings about trees exploding 🤯

@astarsscreams We moved to California after the snowdrifts covered the attic windows of our 2 story colonial house.Rent is too damn high, but Nevada and Arizona are still cheap.

@astarsscreams It was indeed. My dad arranged 3 job interviews within a week, 2 in California and 1 in Hawaii.I came with a breath of being LostInHawaii.

@LostInCalifornia That could have been fun. I’ve only ever been in Illinois, but my dad did turn down a position in the UK when I was a teen (I am still annoyed 25 years later).

@LostInCalifornia Also it’s beautiful there. But I understand California is also beautiful (I haven’t made it out there yet, this year hopefully).

@astarsscreams California is big state. Plenty to see. It's also beaucoup expensive these days.My parents used to do road trips and camp out at national / state parks. The redwoods alone are worth it (but not Yosemite unless you book a year or so in advance). Walking in a Sequoia forest is a sacred experience. And then there is 1000 miles of coastal highway....

@astarsscreams Well, the zoo, of course. Balboa Park, Old Town, Coronado, Torrey Pines, the La Jolla cavern + beaches, some very nice art museums, and they have a decent theater. There is a funky college student / coffee bar section in town. My sis went through surgery at the UC hospital, and I was trying to remember what it's called -- I think it was Hillcrest, but Lonely Planet says North Park and South Park.Lots to see. It's the 3rd smallest of our 3 major cities, but it's still pretty big. Also, there is San Diego proper, and then there is north of San Diego. I like the beaches in Carlsbad, but there's also Encintas. And you can take Amtrack from there -- it's scenic route along the Pacific. SD has a rail system in town as well. And San Diego has the best Mexican food in the country. LA has the 2nd best, but San Diego has the best, especially in the barrios.Last -- Tijuana is just south, but I'd be cautious these days. There are some absolutely excellent places in Baja, but there are also cartels in Baja.

@LostInCalifornia Yeah, my brother already suggested the zoo. I will look into those other places you listed, thanks 😊 we’ll definitely need to take them to the coast, none of them have seen an ocean ever. My girls of course don’t really know the geography yet (5&8), so their first question was ‘can we do Disney with our cousins’ since they do know Disneyland is in California 🤣

@LostInCalifornia @astarsscreams California is gorgeous. Death Valley, Joshua Tree National Park, San Jacinta, and the Saltern Sea. So much contrast. I must visit again.

@astarsscreams You have to do the zoo. That's not an ordinary zoo.Yer, you can do Disneyland. (But, you notice it's not on my list. Too many people only come for Disney.)There's a reason Californians talk about distance in time, not miles. Anaheim is about an hour, plus maybe a half, away in good traffic if you drive. You could take Amtrack. The Pacific Surfliner is worth a ride by itself, and they give you have off park admission. (Walt Disney is rumored to have built the park because he wanted a bigger train set. Major train geek, so it fits.)https://www.amtrak.com/disneyland-discount

@LostInCalifornia Definitely yes on the zoo. I think we’ll be there a week :) and it’s good to know about Amtrak- both my spouse and I love trains and it would be a great trip for the kids to experience.
