@Nudhul by giving them a ride into this timeline and showing them how their actions allowed fascists like Steve Bannon to politicize enraged gamers with anti-woke campaigns and get trump into office. trump wouldn't have happened without gamergate.also, i would kill hillary

@Nudhul it was a specific part of the progressive spectrum who kickstarted this. These people were blinded by arrogance. They actually believed it would matter hpw women are presented in video games for their role in society. Bannon later jumped on the rage train and slightly steered it in his favor.

@condret @Nudhul A nightmare world of ultra authoritarian inverse social pyramid? A leech economy where the average majority ethnicity worker is drained into poverty if not outright denied employement to hire useless clowns on identitarian policy, on his own soil? Were you making mad cash off it, or are you just unapologetically evil?

@nerthos @Nudhul a world where ethnicity is no longer a relevant category, a world with less and less borders for people to go whereever they want. Maybe that is just the dream of someone who grew up in the heart of europe in the 2000s and early 2010s with more and more seemingly open borders. These identitarian policies, who were pushed by a lack of patience, never could put us back on track towards that world. i hate them.Tell me, why is it, that the right always blames the immigrant/queer/jew, but never the employer who exploits all workers no matter their ethnicity, sexual orientation or religion.

@condret @Nudhul >A world where culture is erased>A world where there's no variety, just amorphous brown blobs covering the whole earth>A world where there are no nations with their own laws and histories which allow a man to live with people who think like him, instead being forced into a global government dystopia with no choice or freedom>A world where, if one single place fails, the entire human race is plunged into crisis, instead of one country out of 250 having a crisis and the other 249 remaining fine>Tell me, why is it, that the right always blames the immigrant/queer/jew, but never the employer who exploits all workers no matter their ethnicity, sexual orientation or religion. This is completely false. We blame the bad actors, be them outsiders or traitors. We don't blame the foreign engineer that moves in to work on a project and ends up getting citizenship and integrating, marrying a local and becoming one of us; we blame the illegal that invades and tries to enforce the rules of the land he hated enough to leave on our soil.We don't blame the guy that has sex with another guy in the privacy of his home and then acts like everyone else outside; we blame the faggot who tongues kids and shows his dick around at a parade in the middle of the city.We don't blame the jew for worshipping the god of Abraham in an archaic manner, we blame him for usury and child genital mutilation and in group conspiracy while being a guest in another nation (also just look at israel, come on, there's no argument against their overt evil)We can't do much about actually fixing monopolies and exploitative business when any early attempt at doing so is used as a wall breach for communist agitators to try to push their murderous ideology and hijack any attempt at actually improving the conditions of citizens for their own goals. It'd be different if we weren't locked in an eternal war against these fuckers that refuse to meet us on the field and instead operate entirely through underhanded methods, and force us to tolerate shitty actors because it's a choice between two enemies, one that is bad and one that is "rape every woman in berlin between the ages of 13 and 60" or "bring the average life expectancy of cambodia to 18" bad. Also, don't be dishonest. The progressive movement that gamergate broke was not in the least about egalitarianism, it was about reversing a perceived social pyramid and extracting as much vengeance as possible, and about lining their pockets through corruption or (in the case that triggered the gamergate movement) outright prostitution. You didn't want to be given opportunities on your hard merits, you wanted quotas and privileges, to be VIPs and have priority over the common man. The best example of this is software projects, where it was completely possible to go by an alias and reveal 0 information about who you were IRL, and be judged entirely on the quality of your code, but your side denied this completely meritocratic and fair situation and instead insisted on making it about identity. If you wanted "a world where ethnicity is no longer a relevant category" then you would have been thrilled about that anonimity and even playing field.

@condret @Nudhul Also, "place that you can just go to and ethnicity doesn't matter" already existed in my homeland of Argentina, but guess what? progressives decided "ethnicity not mattering isn't enough, so we must poison the well with focaultist marginality theory and create a ministry of thought crime" and now they have Milei and an entire generation that wants to hang them, and it's a completely just and fair outcome.

That is the main problem with progressives: even if they achieve their basic objective, it will not be enough for them. Because doing so means they have nothing else to fight for and these are people whose life is so devoid of meaning that they throw themselves into fake and gay causes

@condret @nerthos >Maybe that is just the dream of someone who grew up in the heart of europe in the 2000s and early 2010s with more and more seemingly open borders.the world you grew up in is an aberration. it's a pipe dream of liberal socialist faggots who are arrogant enough to think they can change the very nature of the world, and the only reason it only kind of worked (at the beginning) is because europe was much more homogenous than it is now.clearly defined and enforced borders is what makes good neighbors and that will never change.

@Nudhul @condret Had this thought too. "Grew up in early XXI century europe" yeah a majority white region of comparatively equally developed nations with similar laws and customs, of course it'd be pleasant. That homogeinity is the only reason it's not a nightmare warzone.

@Nudhul @condret well, western europe didn't explode into war during the late XX and early XXI century because in the postwar everything was designed to avoid that. Not sure how long it'll hold though. The balkans didn't have a war prevention structure in place.

@condret @Nudhul @nerthos @light I think the core event occurred a bit earlier when during Occupy protests political establishment realised that income inequality problem could unite the majorities from both camps: conservatives and progressives, bringing them together — so instead of addressing this core issue, every group was given a good old set of permanently unsolvable problems instead. But, they were such topics that the other group would certainly not support or even show some resistance to: to the right those were immigration and the fact that their tax money gets "wasted" on social programs, and to the left those were minorities and support for marginalised groups.Progressive agenda was always mostly economic, it was about giving marginalised groups a fair chance at employment and being fairly rewarded for their work, not about giving minorities this caricaturesque boost, setting them against the majority — and most of the people in the majority of course had personally nothing to with their woes and are equally powerless. And yet this is exactly what we got! I've seen a post, I think it was on Bluesky — someone suggested moving the focus away from minorities and revisiting the economic agenda: remember, there was this "class war" thing? It received thousands of replies in the vein: "No, I'm not giving up on my trans-sisters, you Nazi!" — I've never seen so much filth addressed even at those who literally have a swastika tattooed on their chest, people were getting trained for years to treat those who simply want to look beyond the problem of minorities and look at the bigger picture — as enemies.I doubt that this setting people against each other is just a coincidence, but I agree with you, this "gamergate" thing was instrumental in pushing people, younger people in particular, to the right and radicalising them.
