@Dudebro @bronze @dictatordave @egirlyuumimain Some dude on YouTube tested one of these out with crappy wiring and said it was surprisingly hard to zap yourself. Basically have to make sure the neutral isn’t (???) floating + no ground to metal pipe and it was “fine”. I might be remembering that backwards. Regardless, I wouldn’t be so careless.

@Dudebro @bronze @dictatordave @egirlyuumimain They use this in poor places near the equator because their “cold” water isn’t cold and only needs a small boost to make it hot. It seems pretty dumb, but I don’t think the water will be a better path for electricity than the neutral or ground right by it. Hot showers are a luxury in a lot of third world.

Neutral MUST NOT be bonded to ground except at the main service panel. Because wires have a certain amount of resistance, the neutral leg near an active appliance has a few volts on it, it's not zero voltage. So the point is you use the neutral as a return path for the power, and the ground is an emergency line that only drains away power if something goes really wrong - so it should in normal circumstances be truly neutral. Also I would put that thing on a GFCI breaker so if ever the amount of power flowing on the hot is more than the amount flowing back on the neutral (i.e. some is leaking elsewhere), it will kill the circuit. But anyway, the thing is ugly so I wouldn't use one anyway...

@Herman_Hetherington @Dudebro @Goalkeeper @bronze @Will2Power @dictatordave @egirlyuumimain I don't know, but what i do know is that the brand of those showers here is called "Lorenzetti". Cheap. So I guess that's why. But at the same time, as time passed, people mostly use telephone-style showers in their homes unless they are too poor. The price delta isn't that big either imo.And we're in summer here and we barely turn up the water temperature, since the sun heats up the water thingies the building has.

@HonkHonkBoom @Billy_Hughes @dictatordave @Dudebro @bronze @BowsacNoodle @egirlyuumimain Helped install one at my parents summer home. That thing runs on three phase 400V, don't remember the exact amperage it's set to but the max set by the power company is 32A so it was less than that, probably like 25A. Comes out to about 15kW I think? Great for washing dishes in the sink but I'd still consider the flow to be barely enough for showering if you like your showers hot not just lukewarm.

@Billy_Hughes @BitterPill @Dudebro @bronze @BowsacNoodle @dictatordave @egirlyuumimain They're usually extra aerated low flow shower heads to make that work well, and in areas where they are commonly used, the ground water is already fairly warm, they're not heating it from the temp that comes out of our cold taps ... the gas units can do instant hot reliably, as can the 230v euro units, at least better than our domestic power ..

His suicide shower was putting voltage out at the shower head water, at highest still in the single digits. Also said there was voltage creep in the ground, which I do not understand, and said a lot of the goobers who install these will cut the ground to make it actually work (💀).

@dictatordave @HonkHonkBoom @Billy_Hughes @BitterPill @Dudebro @bronze @egirlyuumimain Idk if you watched it, but he tried to shock himself with it by standing on the metal drain and touching the shower head with his tongue. He likely knew it wouldn’t work, since he’s smart enough to get performatively shocked rather than die. He noted the wires would likely melt in standard American 120v, and that third world 240v is better able to manage this from lower amp pull.

@BowsacNoodle @feralphilosophernc @Billy_Hughes @Dudebro @bronze @BitterPill @HonkHonkBoom @egirlyuumimain good stuff, your liver uses it to produce a high powered antioxidant and its great for controlling mucus and promotes lung function as well

we got a big version of that more or less in each building around here they work good, it's nice living in a building that has hot water after spending two years in one that doesn't, boiling water each time you want hot water is a pain int he ass, i took a few cold showers cuz i was toot ired to go in the house, but only during summer when it was hot anyway.

@madcuzbad @Dudebro @Billy_Hughes @bronze @BowsacNoodle @egirlyuumimain yea the gas fired tankless heaters are nicei havn't heard much on their longevity since they just kinda hit the market hard a few years ago. i'm still seeing lots of hot water generators and storage tanks in commercial buildings but we've actually dont schools that have a handful of them doing all the hot domestic water for the whole building, including 140 degree hot water for the kitchen so they're no jokein a house i bet you save a lot of money, especially if you pair it with an instahot at the tap

@madcuzbad @Billy_Hughes @Dudebro @bronze @BowsacNoodle @egirlyuumimain lol i dunno bro that's pretty sketchy to not filter the well water at allhave you seen a test of it lately? it could be contaminated with pfas and all kinds of shita county nearby is all fukt up because gore, goretex people, have been just venting shit to the atmosphere for decades and finally someone decided to look and see if the condensing chemicals were creating issues, they were

@madcuzbad @Billy_Hughes @Dudebro @bronze @BowsacNoodle @egirlyuumimain you need to get a water test its not a spring bro, its not being filtered through rock, its coming from a plastic pipe that's coming from a well pipe that's hit a pocket of ground water, and anything can get into it from multiple placeswell water isn't automatically clean because its in the ground, there could be all sorts of natural contamination as well

@Billy_Hughes @Dudebro @bronze @BowsacNoodle @HonkHonkBoom @dictatordave @egirlyuumimain The power draw is massive to achieve the instant heating. However it's in theory more efficient than a boiler since there are no losses, you only heat the water when you're actually using it while a boiler maintains a volume of water at boiling temp and loses some of that heat even through all the insulation.

@Billy_Hughes @Dudebro @bronze @BowsacNoodle @HonkHonkBoom @dictatordave @egirlyuumimain On the flip side a boiler is typically only a few hundred watts versus the many thousands of watts of an instant heater. And that means you can much more easily power a boiler from solar panels and maybe even integrate a heat pump for additional efficiency.Really the main benefit of instant heat is that it takes up barely any space.

@BitterPill @Billy_Hughes @Dudebro @bronze @BowsacNoodle @HonkHonkBoom @egirlyuumimain you also run less water with the instant hoti see them a lot in shell space fit outs where a client is having an office built on a bare floor, so rather than run all kinds of pipe they run 1 cold water and then use these to save money

my parents got water pipes embedded in their floors in their house that all run back to a central unit that heats the water up to warm the floors lol, then they got an electric water heater that doesn't store water. for showers etc.
