@Woodbutcher you showed a cast iron stove into the fireplace? Well, I suppose whatever works for ya. But you know, you can get a proper fireplace inserts for about the same money. They even make those with water jackets so you can distribute the heat throughout the house. Just saying ;)

@ThatCrazyDude at the time when we had gotten this there was not an insert that would fit in the space that had the equivalent b.t.u. rating

@Woodbutcher well, they're never very efficient. But then, neither are wood burning stoves. Most of the heat will always escape through the chimney no matter what you do. But you can recover some if you have a heat exchanger that heats water, or something along those lines ;)

@Woodbutcher Sure beats buying propane when you live in the middle of nowhere....and fuel in the form of wood is plentiful....

@ThatCrazyDude @Woodbutcher Rocket Mass for the win!I actually knew someone who put one in a very cold and leaky trailer and on one of the coldest nights after burning just a very little bit. It was still putting off heat in the morning.

@Woodbutcher @souldessin yeah, I know. I have one in the garage and it works great. I'm just saying that efficiency is always low with those because most of the heat is being carried away with smoke. Then again, wood is cheap, so who cares ;)
