Done with this shit.This is the most aggressively mediocre game I have ever played, and I can't believe a bunch of youtubers baited me into playing it.It's not a bad game, but it's very, very far from being good, and it sells itself as a "roguelite" game but it's actually an incremental game in disguise. Tactical decisions or skillful play means nothing in it, you just grab a bunch of upgrades and hope you have enough metaprogression to kill the bosses. And you can't even try to push for a build, because the game is stubbornly asinine in giving you different upgrades, and you just end up wasting your rerolls seeing repeat after repeat.The only reason I 100% it was because it was relatively easy to do, but fuck them if they think I'll waste any of my time on the "super hard modes" or "endless mode".

@rosey nah, roguelites tend to have a tactical and/or skill component in them, so much that you can usually win your first run, without any metaprogression.Ball x Pit doesn't have this, you are literally just throwing a shit ton of balls through a straight corridor. Unless you purposefully aim your shots to miss every enemy, what you actually do in the game matters very little. And to go through the later levels, you need to stop and grind earlier levels to gather resources to improve your numbers, so you can actually do enough damage.

@rosey @fluffy roguelikes are very hard to find, and very few modern games have any similarity to Rogue to be called a roguelike. One of the latest ones I remember is Dungeons of Dredmor, and it's still an old game.

@rosey @fluffy BoI is a roguelite.Roguelike is a game like Rogue. Roguelites are games that take inspiration in some stuff from rogue (namely permadeath and procedural generated levels) but play in a completely different way.Caves of Qud is a roguelike, BoI isn't.

It's simple.Honestly, I think that the difference in playstyle between what a "roguelike" used to be and what some people nowadays call "roguelike" is substantially more important than the marginal difference between having or not metaprogression in your mockery of the original genre.

@fluffy @rosey I like gachas when I can roll for cute girls and the gameplay is something I can casually get into, a cutthroat dungeon crawler in the molds of Wizardry with stuff tied to a gacha system feels very weird.

It's 75% off right now.But then I went to check the discussions and... it seems it's a fucking "live service" game, and there isn't even an ending to the story after over a year.

I used to watch the old cartoons when I was a kid, then I found out the original comics and asked myself "how the fuck did they turn this into a children's cartoon?".The old stuff is good, and some new stuff is fun. And the game, at least from outside, looks pretty good. I'm just a bit wary with the "live service" shit.
