If i was in power and could do as i want in europe. i'd take shit tons of ecb money to stomp a semiconductor industry out of the ground and remove anti circumvention laws. i'd make asylum seekers revitalize dead villages on the german country side after 3 years of speedrunning learning german language and bureaucracy. These immigrants would eat Bretzel and Weißwurst and work 32+h per week on pushing german infrastructure forwards.

@light no, i would offer them an easy opportunity to have a fair paying job in germany. first they learn basics of the german language, then they can work together with native germans to improve our public infrastructure. studies have shown that employment helps with integration.

@light the program would be part of an eu wide job guarantee. there is so much to do:- put solarpanels on every suitable roof- put batteries in the basement walls of every house- repair bridges- build datacenters- build chip fabs- build synthetic fuel refineries (i believe that current ice cars will remain on the streets for many years, and we really need a solution that doesn't require consumers to buy a new electric car or go full public transport)

@condret @light >solarpanels on every suitable roofLook at the life time.Look at how it can be recycled (it can't without costing more than the product).>put batteriesSame issue.Energy speaking what consumes the most is heating water, which is coincidentally the thing that people use the most.Laundry, hot water, dishes, hot water, heating, can be hot water, hygiene, hot water. The best way would be to go for solar vacuum tube heaters, and you can couple that with thermal battery storage. As for other sources already available. Home methanization is also a thing that can even be stored in compressed gas tanks.Other than that there's home scale wind turbines but will only work for houses either on the coast or villages in the middle of crop fields. >build datacentersFor what purposes ?>build chip fabsI agree.> build synthetic fuel refineriesWhat ?

@hakui @light @condret Has been there any breakthrough ? Because so far it's still inefficient, much more energy demanding,... It would be less of a problem if Gen IV glowing hot rocks reactors would have been built instead of going back to coal.

@hakui @light @condret My point is that it would cost less to make synthetic fuels if nuclear power plants were more abundant, and more updated instead of closing each project to then spend public money on ponzi scheme startups.

@hakui @light @condret It worked tho, otherwise they would not have been radiations to test anything. It would have worked if they had finished it and converted it to turbines, which they did but with conventional kerosene.

@mangeurdenuage @condret @light >It worked tho, otherwise they would not have been radiations to test anythingit's a disconnected system retardi can start a wood fire in an aircraft and there would be smoke to test but that doesn't mean the wood fire is propelling the aircraft>It would have worked if they had finished it and converted it to turbinesnot proven. it's like saying if we somehow piped the wood fire to the turbines it'll life the aircraft

@hakui @light @condret >i can start a wood fire in an aircraft and There would be smoke to testYes it provided power and that was the hardest part to have it do that withing a small space that doesn't kill the crew.(like with nuclear subs but the constraints are less hard)>not provenNuclear power plants don't work like watermills. The technology was proven at the same time it was developed but for other projects.

@mangeurdenuage @condret @light >Yes it provided powerthat power wasn't connected to the turbines, which, you know, the very first sentence of the article already mentioned and which i highlighted in the screenshot but you continue to insist that just because it was running inside the aircraft it was powering it>nuclear subssubs don't need to lift in the air like planes do

@hakui @light @condret >that power wasn't connected to the turbinesyes I know, that's why I pointed out they didn't have turbines. I'm pointing out that the reactor was able to have it's nuclear reaction going on (thus creating energy). And that the shielding worked.Which is the hardest part for the constraints they have (lightest possible).>subs don't need to liftThat's why I precised different constraints. It still needs to not be too heavy too.

@hakui @light @condret >whether that reaction can translate to the throughput sufficient for powering the turbines is unprovenIt's true that it's unproven but I doubt it would not work. @condret @sun @light >afaik the efficiency never drops to 0The problem is, like many products, you can't be sure of the quality/lifetime of the said product, often it's 10 years max and at the end like many people I've seen they have 30% production compared to what it should be.Or even worse like I've seen many time scam companies install the solar panel and don't put the appropriated inverter which only allows 50% of the total surface to be actually exploited, worst that is that EDF the official entity in France that has to check these sent technicians for safety and of course they validated such faulty installations.Human error and maliciousness aside. Like I said at the beginning, if the demanding energy to recycle it is superior to what it needed to be produced and that it produced in it's lifetime then it shouldn't be made. Otherwise it will just end up in a landfill like most of these and will fuck up further cropland, animals and thus also human health.
