       Most western people are gullible and they do not have any clue about the realities of the Muslim world.. Whenever a group claims to be liberal, secular, leftist it always attract the Western people a lot... But always beware because they do this to get sympathies from the west and to hide the tribalsitic and authoritarian realities home.In the Muslim world the oldest Republican form of govt is the First Azerbijan Republic during 1918 which was a prototype of then the Turkish Republic.. Before that there was no republican form of concept in the Muslim World... The oldest constitutional monarchy in the Muslim world is the Ottoman Empire from 1876 until 1878 and then between 1908 and 1912/1913 and that was it... The second oldest constitutional monarchy in the Muslim world is Qajar Iran after 1906 constitutional revolution and that was very shaky as well... The Pahlavis who took over Iran in 1925 mostly ruled Iran as an autocratic state.Rest of Republics and democracies in the Muslim only sprang after WW2 and decolonization process which includes the largest Muslim majority country Indonesia, And the 2nd largest Muslim majority country Pakistan.... Pakistan was in fact the largest Muslim majority country at the time of independence in 1947 since it also included the modern day country of Bangladsh... Though both Indonesia and Pakistan also had shaky record of democracy.So in this context always remember the idea of Republican form of govt and nationalism is not old beyond the 19th century and early 20th century in the Muslim world..
