so many of the organs of like. well i dont fuckin know what they are. sites of organizing? production? what the fuck ever i just know i am so so sad that i have never gotten to be involved with like a subculture. i want to sink some time into making art and connections and shit that don’t immediately feel foreclosed on, that aren’t captured from the moment of inception. and like yes i am aware this is sort of what xenofemme is but so many of the functions you’d find in something like that are just not present here. what does xenofemme music sound like? how does one dress? if i were more online maybe there would be more to it, but like hell i’m spending more time on my damn phone, and there’s not a lot of other ways in. maybe eventually i’ll put some effort into like trying to work some of that out myself when i have some time and some money.honestly i don’t know if those organs are present anywhere anymore. in-person subcultures seem so fucking rooted in nostalgia for their own relevance as like. expressions of folk’s psyches that were mostly repressed everywhere else. or maybe the scenes here just suck idfk

@morrigan my ideal version of xnfm would be one where the software we're running allows for total customization of the profile page like MySpace to encourage a virtual equivalent of fashion, but this would require writing custom software, so it's only an idea right now. but also (sub)culture is created by doing shit. more people just need to do shit and make shit. a decent amount of that already happens on here but there can always be moar doing and less talking or posturing

@nyx @morrigan misskey used to be approaching something like this, with the infamous Misskey Room (which to my knowledge it no longe rhas) ... also like, Misskey Pages, which have aiscript support, its built in scripting language .... theres a lot more to misskey than just MFM its kind of ridiculous software but thats besides the pointgotosocial has per user CSS, i think thats a pretty cool feature. i guess also any single user oriented software like honk or snac can be used to do this arbitrarily too, and i have some distance memory of someone called puck having their own software no one else uses and kind of a bizarroworld fedi presence because of thatiirc i've seen pleroma instances in the past where users could set their own -backgrounds- and -music- when visiting their profilenaturally all of these require visiting the users profile on the home instance but i think that parts trivial. its always seemed like it would make way more sense for the default behavior of trying to peep a users profile should be visiting at the originating instancenone of this is really what you suggest but i think it does indicate that the culture of fedi in general has at least something approaching a critical mass of people interested in that kind of customizability

@nyx @morrigan the culture of actually doing shit that xnfm has been developing is really cool even though its not fully reached its acme yet, xnfm has extremely few contemporaries in that regard. its enough to make me feel a little left out not throwing myself fully into the xnfm pit but i don't think i get along well enough with the broader xnfm culture to give myself to it fully

@nyx @morrigan i started writing a reply but quickly lost the plot as my line of thought start flying through several tangents but i am now thinking about how it would be nice if fedi more resembled a MOO. i have no idea how/if the project progressed since i was peripherally interested circa 2019 but spritely had a really exciting vision of what we could have
