       I was thinking about Yuri Bezmenov's warning from his 1984 60 Minutes interview today, and played with some ideas (they're probably not new, so I claim no originality). For those who don't know Yuri Bezmenov was a former KGB agent who outlined how the Soviet Union would destroy a nation without firing a single shot through some four steps:1) Demoralize - undermine the country's shared values over 15-20 years (complete)2) Destabilize - weaken its key institutions (complete)3) Crisis - push society to breaking point (so, yeah, we are approximately here)4) Normalization - the new order takes controlTrump threatening to seize Greenland from NATO ally Denmark while Europe faces Russian aggression? Eh, that's not "America First" - it's perfectly timed chaos that breaks Western unity when we need it most. Whether he knows it or not - he could just be a useful idiot - he's accelerating the crisis phase. A US president dismantling American global influence using American nationalism as cover is the ultimate subversion.And the thing I find a bit scary is that Bezmenov said successful operations survive regime changes and will take generations to succeed. Just because the USSR fell doesn't mean their agents and networks disappeared.So that's a scary bed time story for your kids about why US politics suddenly got so destructive right when China and Russia started challenging the global order.
