@whitequark@social.treehouse.systems I feel like a "reasonable" solution is using whatever cheapest RPi is and one of their camera modules to build your own IP camera. It's ass for a wide variety of reasons, but at least the vendor is lying less to you

@whitequark@social.treehouse.systems the vendor "approves" of more use cases so you need to fight them lessnow, given, there's other stuff you have to fight (namely, building the thing), but I personally feel like that's an easier option (tho idk, my skillset and willingness to do RE is different from yours so might be different for you)

@whitequark@social.treehouse.systems agree on all of this. I'd likely accept the downsides and still build on it because I don't have enough patience to fight against companies that picked a stupid fight, but I understand if your priorities are different
