I severely misjudged George Hotz. That the HackerNews community is trying its hardest to muster the skeptic pokerface response, while absolutely melting down on the inside because the techno-optimism party is over is just further confirmation the author struck a (potentially hurtful) truth-nervehttps://geohot.github.io//blog/jekyll/update/2026/01/18/how-do-i-stop.html

@bruvduroiu I can confidently say that the $1000 I spent on comma 3x was the best bang for the buck I've ever spent on any tech. I say this as someone that have never bought a new laptop in my life and buy as much second hand computer parts as reasonable. An anecdote, since I live in Canada, the free sim that comma ships doesn't work here, I chatted a bit in their discord about it and people there mentioned I could probably flash another sim profile on it although no one have done it yet. A few hours later with their help I use the modem on the comma to load a JMP chat esim on it and now it's my primary sim. How freaking cool is that?

@shironeko That's amazing. I love open hackable hardware, and we need more of those.I think geohotz's Twitter is way more inflammatory than his long form writes, which is maybe why I mischaracterised him. That and thinking tinygrad is overpriced, until I realised the thermal and power issues of building a GPU rig that's worth a damn
